Description
DETROIT — Former Detroit City Councilman Andre Spivey was sentenced Wednesday by a federal judge to two years in prison for receiving almost $36,000 in bribes, according to multiple reports.
Spivey pleaded guilty in September to accepting over $35,000 in bribe payments between February 2018 and February 2020 in connection with the City Council's oversight of towing in Detroit.
The FBI's investigation into Spivey was part of a wider investigation into Detroit City Council, known as "Operation Northern Hook," which also saw the FBI raid the homes and offices of two other Detroit City Councilmembers, Scott Benson and Janae Ayers.
Spivey was the first person charged and convicted as part of that investigation.
