Great opportunity for someone who will dedicate themselves to serving Temple Beth Shalom and becoming the onsite caretaker. This job requires alot of setup/breakdown/cleaning/minor repairs/outside cleanup and maintenance/snow shoveling/food prep occassionally/dealing with congregants/laundry/computer skills and Zoom knowledge would be a big plus. 34 hours a week...slightly flexible with hours. Job requires you to work Friday night/Saturday and Sunday mornings. Days off Monday and Tuesday (Summer months days off would be /Sunday and Monday) Lifting required for table and chair setup and breakdown for large events. Caretaker house (free as park of compensation package) is a 2 bedroom/1 bath, 700 square feet, nice backyard. We will not accept anyone with a criminal background or history. Full job description below: The responsibilities of the Temple caretaker shall include but not be limited to the following items: Secure building: All doors and windows, courtyard gate, cabinets with locks, storage rooms, etc. must be locked when not in use. Energy conservation: Electricity, gas, water to be used only when necessary. Shut off or down when applicable. Overall Facility: Must be kept clean and stocked on a regular basis and when extra service as required. Grounds maintenance: Water any potted plants as necessary. Sweep and clean walks, lawns and parking lot as needed. Remove debris from grounds. Assist in back lot as necessary. Grounds in winter: Walk ways, including city sidewalks, must be kept clean and safe. Have parking lot snow removed by professionals. Carpets: Regular vacuuming and spot cleaning. Perform thorough cleaning as necessary. Floors: Wash, sweep and buff as necessary. Rooms: Appropriate set-up and clean-up for all Temple functions and events Learn sound system and operate sound system during services and special events. Set up lap top computer, projector, screen for classes and functions. Run Zoom sessions for Friday night services, Saturday morning services, Wednesday minyan service and other times as needed. Learn the security system Special functions: Special arrangements as specified by Temple Administrator. No direct negotiations between members and caretaking staff without prior approval of Temple Administrator. Sanctuary: Set-up as directed by Rabbi or Temple Administrator for all services and events, clean-up, and book replacement and change outs as needed. Classrooms: Straighten up and clean up as needed or on regular basis. Windows: Wash all inside and exterior first level as needed. Arrange with Temple Administrator to have upper exterior windows and sky lights cleaned by professional service. Kitchen: Maintain a clean kitchen with mopping, sink cleaning, dish washing, etc.. Perform garbage and waste removal daily or as needed. Cleanup: As soon after each function as possible. Use washer and dryer as needed for laundering of linens, towels, etc. Dusting: Perform on a regular basis or as needed. Service and storage areas: Keep neat, clean and tidy. Temple Administrator: To be contacted at once in case of inadequate facilities, equipment storage, etc. Calendar of events: To be checked daily. Questions to be referred to Temple Administrator. Emergency repairs: Coordinate with Temple Administrator. Fence: Keep gate locked. Report needed repairs to Temple Administrator. Sprinkler system: Monitor for efficiency, repair and service with Temple Administrator. Plumbing and electrical: Coordinate service/repairs with Temple Administrator on heating and air conditioning system: Monitor system. Report any abnormalities to Temple Administrator for repair. Set timings as needed for functions. Order and maintain stocked supplies Living quarters (caretaker housing): Neat and presentable. No structural changes or repairs without TBS Board approval. Maintain backyard. Maintain good communication with rest of temple staff through email/text messaging/phone calls. Absolutely no smoking or drug use of any substance on temple property. Maintain flexibility of work hours that fit with staff needs, events, holidays and vacation schedules. Assist with food prep/lunches/events that involve food as needed in preparation or displaying of food, etc. A food handler’s permit will be required within 30 days of hire. Run errands as needed. Mileage fees will be paid. Work closely with security officers and security advisors to keep TBS facility and campus safe at all times. All staff and congregational matters to be kept strictly confidential.
