HVAC, Mech Middlebury College Posting Number: S01713 Position Summary: ***New hires for this position will be eligible for a $750 sign-on bonus at the completion of 180 days of employment Performs various metal fabrication, welding repair, electromechanical, HVAC repair, and preventative maintenance on campus building equipment. Essential Functions: Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and a post-offer pre-employment screening. Perform maintenance and repair of various campus equipment as indicated on daily work orders. Perform metal fabrication and weld repair as necessary to build/rebuild various equipment and parts. Performs millwright activities including equipment reliability and preventive maintenance, belt and shaft alignments, work on conveyor systems, and rigging. Support teams of trades people skilled in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, automotive technology, and boiler plant.. Maintain records of time, materials, etc. involved with each job. Machines parts as necessary on lathes, mill presses, etc.. Installs and repairs appliances and fitness equipment. Troubleshoots all electromechanical systems on campus. Performs preventative maintenance and testing of standby emergency generators on campus. Coordinates outages and repairs as required. Assists with preventative maintenance in the heating plant and biomass facility during scheduled outages and occasionally on an emergency basis. *Work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors. *Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Middlebury College and departmental policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission. General Responsibilities: Performs associated facilities services maintenance work as requested, including, but not limited to: snow removal, event setup and cleanup, truck loading and unloading and grounds maintenance. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certifications preferred in welding and propane. Certificate of fitness T6 - Emergency Generators (TQP) - Have or ability to obtain. On-the-job training, vocational schooling. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills a must. Must be able to work independently with ability to troubleshoot complex problems spanning HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems in a large building environment. Must have a valid drivers license and own vehicle for transportation of self, tools, and procuring small materials. Furnishes own hand tools for plumbing/mechanical work. Must have the ability to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of a regular or rotating work shift. Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime as necessary. Must be available for emergency maintenance calls on evenings and weekends according to rotation schedule. Experience: A minimum of five years experience in one or more of the following areas: millwright, plumbing/HVAC; welding; TIG, MIG, stick, gas (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW); appliance installation and repair; commercial kitchen equipment; fitness equipment; generators and engines; small engine repair; landscaping equipment; steam boiler plant operations; basic machining.
