Minimum starting pay $24.00 per hour plus, depending on experience. The Levy Company is currently hiring an experienced Construction Drill Operator to be based out of either the Rio Grande Valley area or the Corpus Christi, TX area to operate a construction drill truck and equipment to assist in construction projects. Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to: Operate Horizontal Directional Drill. Assist in potholing and remediation. Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie ins. Drive equipment to job site. Confirms with locator/lead the bore path to drill. Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine. Drill out following the predetermined drill path to the exit pit. Communicate with the locator/lead via radio to confirm the location of the drill head. Assist with the install of proper pulling gear and hook up product. Reverse process to install product. Oversee laborers and/or crew member’s work and monitor time usage. Conduct post-job quality checks. Clean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment. Select and attach drill bits and drill rods, adding more rods as hole depths increase, and changing drill bits as needed. Perform routine maintenance and upgrade work on machines and equipment, such as replacing parts, building up drill bits, and lubricating machinery. Operate controls to stabilize machines and to position and align drills. Regulate air pressure, rotary speed, and downward pressure, according to the type of rock or concrete being drilled. Operate machines to flush earth cuttings or to blow dust from holes. Assemble and position machines, augers, casing pipes, and other equipment, using hand and power tools. Perform routine safety, maintenance, and servicing inspections and reports. Perform related labor to include, but not limited to, potholing, digging, trenching, setting up equipment, and setting pedestals. Required Qualifications: At least two years of construction experience that included operating heavy equipment. At least one year of experience operating a construction drill rig. Valid Texas commercial driver license (CDL). Preferred Qualifications: Highway construction experience. Experience operating around underground gas, electric, and other utilities. Experience with Spiradrill rig and equipment. Required Competencies: Advanced skill in construction drill rig operations and routine maintenance. Ability to operate other types of heavy equipment. Thorough knowledge and understanding of related safety and compliance procedures. Knowledge of construction practices and use of tools and equipment in construction. Basic mathematical skills. Advanced troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Ability to comprehend and apply oral and written instructions. Ability to complete work accurately, timely, and safely under minimal supervision. Ability to work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings, weekends, and / or holidays. Ability to drive motor vehicles and mobile equipment to and on job sites throughout Texas. Ability to work outside of primary residence area throughout Texas for extended periods of time. (Hotel and per diem provided.) Working Environment: Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Constant driving of large equipment and vehicles for long distances with occasional overnight stays. Physical Demands: Frequent operation of equipment with vibrating and moving parts. Frequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate tools, handles, and levers. Frequent and repeated lifting from ground to various heights up to 50 pounds individually, and team lifting heavier items. Frequent and repeated exerting of force up to 100 pounds. Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Frequent walking on uneven and / or unpaved terrain. Frequent climbing steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles. Frequent and repeated bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching. Visual acuity to drive motor vehicles and mobile equipment and to read printed and electronic documents. Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common driving and construction environment noises.
