Description

La Grua Presents: Pianist Wynona Wang Wynona Wang, Mason & Hamlin grand Béla Bartók Piano Sonata Enrique Granados The Maiden & the Nightingale Sergei Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 1 in d, Op. 28 In her Sunday afternoon La Grua début, pianist Wynona Wang will bring powerful pianistic ability and deep musical insight to bear on two supremely challenging Early Modern scores: sonatas by Bartók and Rachmaninoff. Her able partner in this will be our just-restored 1930 Mason & Hamlin grand, whose transparent sound and startling dynamic range suit the music well. As a gentle reprieve from these titanic pieces, Enrique Granados' haunting, pellucid Quejas, o la maja y el ruiseñor (from Goyescas) will transport us to a sultry, intimate corner of Spain, an exquisite soundscape only a fine pianist and a rare, lyrical instrument can evoke. Wynona won First Prize in the 2018 Concert Artists Guild International Competition (NYC) and has garnered an impressive number of other wins and awards. Seating is not reserved; all seating is first come, first served. Doors open 1/2 hour before the start of the event. Masks are required for all attendees, regardless of vaccination status. Paper ticket is not required; simply give your name at the door. La Grua Center is a small nonprofit cultural arts center—open to all—offering a wide variety of concerts, talks, and art exhibitions in a welcoming space located in Stonington Borough.
