Carpenter The Carpenter’s function is to perform all job related assignments as assigned by the Superintendent. Responsibilities: The outlined responsibilities are not arranged in order of priority. These are not meant to restrict initiative, but rather to describe minimum activities. Those duties will from time to time be altered depending on the Superintendent to suit the needs of the project and the company. Responsibilities include: • Interpretation of plans and specifications • Layout foundation, building lines, and anchor bolts • Shoot elevations and grades • Erect forms, monitor pours regarding depressed areas, building lines, anchor bolts, etc. • Wood framing • Metal stud framing • Hollow metal doors and frame installation • Hang wood doors and install hardware • Install millwork trim and cabinets • Install toilet partitions • Receive materials and off load in a safe and proficient manner • Assist and guide others to improve their skills and complete tasks in an expedient manner • Prepare to perform job related assignments at designated start time • Perform daily tasks in a safe and workman like manner in accordance with company policies • Responsible to secure and maintain basic tools to perform his tasks. Following is a minimum tool list required for all carpenters: o Nail bag o Hammers o Framing o Trimming o 25’ Tape Measure o Utility Knives o Chisel Assortment o 4’ Level o Framing Square o Screw Driver Assortment o Nail Set o Block Plain o Chalk Line o Hand Saw o Pliers Living Thomas Culture: The Carpenter is an ambassador of Thomas Construction Group and is expected to maintain pleasant and respectful relationships with clients and fellow employees. The Carpenter must perform daily responsibilities while upholding the company’s beliefs in Client Service, Excellence, Team, Stewardship, and Continual Improvement. Responsibilities include: • Understanding and embracing Thomas’ Standard Operation Expectations and processes to drive positive business outcomes. • Implementing, maintaining, and improving on our Thomas SOE’s to drive continual improvement and excellence. • Serving as a role model and promoting professional behavior. Relationships: • With Project Superintendent. Reports and is evaluated by the Project Superintendent. • With Subcontractors. Ensures that subs understand their requirements and perform their job according to specifications. Qualifications: • An ability to thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in the construction of the project. • Leadership ability. • Thorough knowledge of construction techniques and the imagination to derive the most efficient method of completing a task. • Foresight to predict problems before they develop. • Ability to use a transit and level and oversee all aspects of job layout and surveying. • Ability to communicate our plan and sequence of activities to all subcontractors and material suppliers to effectively implement our goals. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Performance of the duties will occasionally require: • Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs. • Passenger use of construction personnel hoists. • Ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear (bells, whistles, etc.), stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. • Occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.
