Spend your President’s Day learning about Advocacy and Service Learning! Mini 412 Impact Service Learning Workshop Theme: AdvocacyFor: Students in 8th - 12th grade. Must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask while indoors. Monday, February 21, 2022 from 9am - 4pmSpend your President’s Day learning about Advocacy and Service Learning as we partner with The Positive Painting Project to create canvases to “spread HOPE, one sign at a time”. Students will have the option to attend just our morning session or stay through the afternoon. Full-day students will have the opportunity to develop their own video, event plan and program ideas or other advocacy action plans to take back to their schools to make a positive change in their community. Students can earn Community Service hours for attending this workshop. Morning Session: Half Day | 9am - 12:30pmPositive Painting Project 9am-9:30am: Meet in 200 Lawrence Hall for Introductions 9:30am-10:30am: Introductions, rules of community organizing, past and current social movements, what do we need to advocate for and why? 10:30am-12:30pm: Mental health advocacy, introduction and service project with The Positive Painting Project 12:30pm: Pick up for half day students (lunch is NOT included) Continued, Afternoon Session: Full Day | 12:30pm - 3:30pmBecome an Advocate 12:30pm-1pm: Lunch for full day students 1pm-1:30pm: What is your passion? What do you want to advocate for? How can you do it? 1:30pm-3:30pm: Advocacy plan work – video shooting & editing, project proposal, letter writing, event planning, etc. *Each student will leave with an advocacy project to take back to their school administrators. 3:30pm-4:00pm: Pick up for full day students Drop-Off / Pick-Up DetailsALL students should be dropped off and picked up in our designated "Commuter Zone". This zone is located at 330 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Parents and guardians will pull into the lot, drop off their student, and exit down First Avenue. Additional details will be sent to registered participants.
