Description

OAK CREEK, WI — Children aged 2½-5 who are not currently attending school while living within the boundaries of the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District are eligible for an upcoming developmental screening event on Feb. 16, a district communications specialist said in an email. Developmental screenings monitor how a child grows and changes over time. They take a closer look at how a child is developing, and ask questions about how a child is doing with language, movement, thinking, behavior and emotions, according to the CDC. The Oak Creek screening is designed to provide an overall developmental review to any child meeting the requirements for participation. Parents will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about their child's development while their child participates in a play-based screening, the district's website said. Early education specialists will be available to answer questions and each family will be sent home with free resources, the district website says. Registration for the event is required by Feb. 10. The screening is set to take place on Feb. 16 at The Salvation Army Gymnasium, 8853 South Howell Avenue in Oak Creek. The event will be open 9-11 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m., according to the district's event flyer. You can register for the event online, or register by calling 414-768-6250 ext. 3129.
