STAMFORD, CT — There is a special election scheduled for Jan. 25 in Stamford's 144th District for an open State Representative seat. The seat was left vacant following Caroline Simmons' victory in the Stamford mayoral race last November. Simmons, a Democrat, served as a State Representative in the 144th district for seven years. Patch reached out to the two candidates running for the position — Republican Danny Melchionneand Democrat Hubert Delany — to get more information on their campaigns and the issues that are facing the city. Hubert Douglas Delany is running for State Representative as a Democratic candidate in Stamford, CT. Occupation: U.S. Army Journalist and Mass Communications Specialist with over six years of experience. Previous or Current Elected or Appointed Office: None The single most pressing issue facing our town/district is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it: The Infrastructure of our schools. What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post? My time as an Army paratrooper, soldier, journalist, and reservist, have given me the opportunity lead soldiers and give others a voice. While the missions that I has served on have reinforced and developed my sense of duty, justice, patriotism, and honor. List other issues that define your campaign platform: Lower Cost of Living, Revitalizing Our Economy, Protecting Our Seniors, and Fighting for Veterans and First Responders. What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job? I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for helping to champion diversity in the wake of George Floyd's murder, and I was also awarded the Army Volunteer Service Medal for leading initiatives to promote military absentee voting. However a more complete list of some of my personal awards include: The Army Good Conduct Medal; the Humanitarian Service Medal with bronze star in lieu of second award; the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters in lieu of third award; the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf cluster in lieu of fourth award; The Public Health Service Outstanding Unit Citation; the National Defense Service Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Medal; the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; the Army Service Ribbon; the Overseas Service Ribbon; the Parachutist Badge; and the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency. What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions? It doesn't matter to me whether you're conservative or liberal. I believe that everybody deserves the dignity of a conversation, and all of us deserve a seat at the table.
