BELLEVUE, WA — One home collapsed and more than a dozen others were evacuated early Monday after a water main break caused severe flooding in Bellevue's Somerset neighborhood, according to city officials. The Bellevue Police Department said one home on 139th Place Southeast slid off its foundation and partially collapsed shortly before 5:30 a.m. Fortunately, officers were able to rescue two people who were inside the house. As city utility crews rushed to find the source of the floodwaters, police said that at least 42 people were evacuated from 17 homes in the area, along with several pets. Once daylight arrived, officials were able to survey the damage with a drone and shared videos and images of a large debris field. According to The Seattle Times, those who were forced to evacuate were able to find shelter with relatives or neighbors and at the South Bellevue Community Center. Police said residents would be allowed back to their homes once the area was safe.
