Updated at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. MANASSAS, VA — Authorities have identified the woman who was killed in a Manassas apartment on Monday morning. Police said Mary Anne Smoot died on Monday after she was shot multiple times. In a news release, authorities also identified a suspect. The Prince William County Police Department said they are looking for 18-year-old Maquan Omari McCray, an 18-year-old from Bristow who now faces murder charges. According to Prince William County police, they were called to the Raven Crest Apartments in the 8100 block of Cobden Court in Manassas at 10:22 a.m. to investigate a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman inside an apartment with gunshot wounds. Officers performed CPR on the woman until rescue personnel arrived, however, she was pronounced dead at the scene. No other occupants of the apartment were injured. During their investigation, authorities determined that Smoot and a family member went to the apartment to meet with McCray on Monday morning. The family member and McCray had a previous relationship, police said. During the meeting, an argument broke out between McCray and Smoot. Authorities claimed that McCray then shot Smoot multiple time before fleeing the scene. A police K-9 and police helicopter from Fairfax County searched the area to no avail. Police have been unable to locate McCray. He is described as a Black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing about 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He faces charges of murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Photo courtesy of the Prince William County Police Department.
