Gas Company Takes Over Response To Leak In Crystal City

Updated Jan. 18, 10:36 a.m. ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Fire Department reported that the hazard connected to the large natural gas leak in Crystal City was over, according to a 10:38 a.m. post on the department's official Twitter account. Fire units returned to service as Washington Gas began working to mitigate the leak. ACFD responded around 9:07 a.m. for the report of large natural gas leak in the area of the 3200 block of South Eads St., according to Capt. Nate Hiner, a ACFEMS public information officer. The leak caused South Eads Streets in Crystal City to be closed for over an hour as fire personnel waited for utility crews to assess the situation. The street reopened, according to an alert posted on Arlington County's official Twitter account at 10:24 a.m. on Tuesday. Fire crews requested help from Washington Gas to determine what repairs if any needed to be made, Hiner said. Buildings in the area were checked, but no gas was detected. No buildings have been evacuated. South Eads Street in Crystal City was closed Tuesday morning due to a gas leak. (Google Maps)
