OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School Dist. 229 is wasting no time in filling a vacancy on the Board of Education, after board member Rob Cruz was earlier this month. The deadline to apply for appointment is Jan. 28. Any qualified citizen of Dist. 229 is invited to submit an application and personal resume to the Dist. 229 superintendent. The board will consider filling the vacancy during the committee of the whole meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 2. The person appointed to the vacancy will serve on the D229 board through April 2023. To be considered as a board of education member, applicants must be: A U.S. citizen At least 18 years old by the date of appointment A resident of Illinois and Dist. 229 for at least one year prior to the appointment A registered voter Applicants must neither be a school trustee nor school treasurer Reasons disqualifying applicants from board membership include holding an incompatible office or certain types of state or federal employment. A child sex offender, as defined in state law, also disqualifies an applicant for school board membership. All board of education members must also file an economic interest statement as required by the Illinois Government Ethics Ave. Oak Lawn Community High School is located at 9400 Southwest Highway, Oak Lawn, IL, 60453.
