JOLIET, IL — Joliet officers were on the scene investigating allegations of domestic violence when 31-year-old Joseph McCloud jumped to his death Sunday evening from a sixth story window at the Louis Joliet Apartments, according to police. Officers were sent to investigate a domestic disturbance at the Louis Joliet Apartments, 22 East Clinton St., around 5:30 p.m. At the downtown Joliet property, a woman told police that her boyfriend took her property and was inside her apartment, police said. When the officer escorted the woman back to her sixth story apartment, he saw drug paraphernalia in the hands of McCloud, police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "The officer intervened after the male approached the female at which time the male walked into the bedroom of the apartment," Joliet police reports show. "The officer entered the bedroom to speak to the male and discovered that the male had jumped from the sixth-floor bedroom window." Joliet police found McCloud's body on the ground below and began life-saving measures, English stated. A Joliet Fire Department ambulance rushed McCloud to St. Joe's hospital where he was pronounced dead. McCloud previously lived in Plainfield, according to police. "This incident remains under investigation," English announced. McCloud was listed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry as a sexual predator. According to the website, McCloud was 26 and his victim was 31 when he committed criminal sexual abuse in Will County. Joliet Patch wrote about McCloud's 2015 arrest by Joliet police. The sex offender website listed McCloud as residing in the 100 block of McDonough Street.
