JOLIET, IL — William Dominiak, a 74-year-old Joliet man who was initially charged with 22 felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse and predatory criminal sexual abuse of a child, was sentenced Tuesday by Will County Judge Dan Rippy to spend 50 years in prison. "William Dominiak is a horrific child predator who used this young girl for his own sexual gratification through fear and manipulation, all while appearing to the outside world as a wholesome, godly man," Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow declared in Tuesday's news release announcing the 50-year prison term. "He showed his true character to the outside world at today's sentencing hearing —not only did he refuse to make any statement of remorse for his conduct, but went on to say that the abuse was exaggerated," Glasgow said. "The bravery of the girl who came forward in this case should be recognized. She and her family face a long journey of working to heal and recover that no child or family should have to face because she endured the sick and selfish ongoing acts of sexual abuse perpetrated by William Dominiak." Back in October, Dominiak pleaded guilty to one of Class X felony: predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Under the plea bargain, 21 additional sex crimes were dropped against Dominiak, according to Will County court records Dominiak pleaded guilty on October 14, 2021, to sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years of age over a two-year period from 2009 and 2011 when the victim was 6 to 7 years old, according to Glasgow. In Tuesday's news release, Glasgow thanked assistant state's attorneys Jeffrey Brown and Kelly Tebo, Victim Witness Advocate Danette Pasdertz, Will County Children's Advocacy Center Forensic Interviewer Cruz Arzuaga and recently retired Joliet Police Detective Shawn Filipiak. Dominiak lived in the 400 block of Kungs Way at the time of his arrest by Joliet police on Dec. 1, 2018. He has remained incarcerated the entire time, unable to post 10 percent of his $5 million bail. Tuesday's sentencing judge gave Dominiak credit for the 1,143 days of incarceration he has already served.
