JOLIET, IL — The Will County Sheriff's Office is seeking help trying to locate 52-year-old area resident Wendy Benton. Her family reported her missing to the sheriff's office on Jan. 6. Benton has not had contact with her family since Nov. 5, sheriff's officials announced Tuesday afternoon on their Facebook page.
In recent years, Benton had been living in homeless shelters in Peoria and that surrounding area, police said. She has family in Will County and authorities believe that she may have been trying to get to Will County when she went missing.
"Her current whereabouts are unknown. Attempts to contact Wendy via her last known phone number and social media have been unsuccessful. Wendy M. Benton has been known to frequent homeless shelters," Will County police announced.
Benton is 52, 5-foot-3, and she weighs 115 lbs. She has brown hair and hazel eyes.
