Queer Country West Coast w/ Side Pony + Polythene Ages 21+ Side Pony Polythene Pam, Mya Byrne, Eli Conley Ivy Room Presents Queer Country West Coast Why queer country music? Because sometimes you love a culture that doesn’t always love you back. We do it because we love the music and want to build a community to support queer country musicians. We do it because everybody needs a honky tonk angel to hold them tight. We do it because we can’t think about what it means to be queer in country music without also thinking about the relationship between country music and white supremacy. We do it because we believe in country music for all. https://www.gayoleopry.com/ Side PonyFacebook / Spotify / Bandcamp Side Pony is an Oakland-based queer trans low femme weirdo earnest indie rock group, inspired by queercore, 80s power ballads, alt-country, and too many Virgo songwriters to count. Femme forward vocals with catchy hooks, a retro vibe, and queer punk flare. Side Pony is here for collective liberation and being total homos. Polythene PamWebsite / Facebook / Instagram / Twitter / Bandcamp / Spotify / YouTube / We’re an upbeat, whimsical, queer Americana girl band. Take the quirky nerdery of They Might Be Giants, the old school country twang of Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash, and the rock attitude of the Violent Femmes. Shake well, add a sardonic sense of humor, and you’ve got Polythene Pam. Mya ByrneWebsite / Facebook / Instagram / Twitter / Spotify Recently featured on Reba’s Top Ten remix of “I’m A Survivor” (on mandolin & lap steel), at AmericanaFest 2021, and in Rolling Stone, Mya Byrne’s “rootsy, soulful” tunes (Time Out) and electrifying performances draw comparisons to Lucinda Williams, Chris Stapleton, and The Band. Her new LP, produced by Aaron Lee Tasjan, is due out in 2022. Eli ConleyWebsite / Facebook / Instagram / Spotify / YouTube Eli Conley titled his sophomore album Strong and Tender, but he might well have been describing himself. On stage he’s an earnest yet funny storyteller. His songs address big themes like gender, aging, and death through the concrete and immediate details of daily life: a stolen truck, a flopping fish, a dime in the pocket. Eli has been featured in the Huffington Post and the Advocate, opened for Grammy-winner Kimya Dawson, and founded Queer Country West Coast, a regular series featuring LGBTQ country artists in California.
