Start: Fort Washington Station Finish: Doylestown Station Distance: 22mi Return: SEPTA train Coordinator: Charles Updike Transit: SEPTA train between 30th St, Fort Washington and Doylestown. Optional endpoints: Penllyn Station(5mi), Lansdale Station(10mi) 22-mile walk from Fort Washington to Doylestown along the upper Wissahickon Creek This event is free and open to the public, and part of a two-day walk. Walk either or both. Numerous lodging options near Fort Washington. The Hilton Gardens and Holiday Inn are within a couple blocks of where Saturday's walk ends and Sunday begins. Sat Aug 20 Center City Philadelphia to Fort Washington Sun Aug 21 Fort Washington to Doylestown This beautiful two-day walk follows the Schuylkill River and the full length of the Wissahickon Creek upstream from the Schuylkill to its source and beyond. This second day is all new territory for FreeWalkers, including the upper Wissahickon up to its source along the Green Ribbon Trail, with traces of the valley's industrial past powered by the creek. We finish with a full length walk of the 202 Parkway Trail to charming Doylestown, a great place for us to stop for dinner after. Quick train ride back to Fort Washington or straight through to Center City. Highlights: - Wissahickon Creek - Green Ribbon Trail - Four Mills Nature Reserve - Evans Mumbower Mill - Lansdale - 202 Parkway Trail - Neshaminy Creek - Doylestown Partners: Circuit Trails is 800 miles of interconnected trails in Greater Philadelphia in the making, already one of America's largest trail networks. Once connected, the Circuit Trails will be one of the nation's premier urban trail networks and it will provide multiple benefits to neighborhoods, communities and the region as a whole. FreeWalkers is a non-profit 501(c)3 social organization and network for individuals interested in participating in distance walking events. Our group is free and open to everyone. We encourage each member to accomplish challenging goals as we work together, experience, and promote pro-pedestrian issues. Paricipants accept responsibity for themselves on the walk.
