I've had this idea for a while and have offered the job to friends but no one seems to have the time. What I want to do is leave from Keywest, Florida (most southerly point in the USA) and ride my bike a day, then hike a day, then ride, then hike...to Cape Alava, Washington (which is the westernmost point in the USA). Why? I don't know, I just want to. But...two obstacles, I need a driver to transport my bike on the days I am hiking and someone to transport and take care of my pup while I am on the trail. I don't know the exact route- that will depend on progress, weather, what trails are available to ride (like the Katy trail across Missouri), and other factors. Just a guess but this is about 4500 miles. I expect to average 50-60 miles a day so it is a 3 month commitment. Your reliability will partially decide the success or failure of this trip. What the position entails- we would hotel it in Keywest. I would leave at whatever time and ride (hopefully) 100 miles to start things off. We will have a prearranged meeting spot (usually a hotel). Both our names will be on the reservation so either one of us can get there first and check in. You can leave the Keywest whenever you want to as long as you are at the next stop sometime that evening. You will have the dog with you, luggage, and on alternating days, the bike. I may ask you to pick up some groceries, a bike tire, dog food, etc. If I break down, I also may need you to assist. I may ask you to shoot some video of me biking or hiking. None of this is hard but again, your reliability will partially decide the success or failure of this trip. The type of person I expect would be good at this- anyone who has a clean driving record and a sense of adventure. I will again emphasize "clean driving record." You must have a cell phone and be reasonably responsive to texts or phone calls. You must be responsible and commit to the entire 3 months. You must be able to figure some stuff out on your own from time to time. You must be able to either read a map or use a GPS. You must be able to plan successfully (i.e. don't start out across Nevada with no gas.). You cannot have any exes who will continually distract or harass you= this is a paid position and I would like it to go smoothly. Please have no addictions- cigarettes, drugs, alcohol- nor any weird dependencies or quirks. What I will pay- I will probably do this in a rental car, which I will obviously pay for. I will pay gas, most food (groceries but not nights out if that is your inclination), hotel rooms (I have not completely figured this part out, I would prefer to share a room but don't want to be stabbed in the middle of the night and want you to feel safe as well). I will pay you $100 a day to drive (that is the equivalent of $12.50 an hour for an 8 hour day but you will not be working 8 hours a day). I will pay you however you want me to except I will always hold a week back till we are successful. I will not cover you w/ health insurance. I'll figure out how to insure the vehicle. Claiming it on your taxes is your decision but this could be about $9k in your pocket for 3 months with no expenses (if you do things right).
