HAMDEN, CT — A 22-year-old man was killed in a shooting late Saturday night in Hamden, according to police. Police responded to the area of Fairview Avenue and Arch Street around 10:45 p.m. on the report of shots fired, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Police found a gunshot victim inside a vehicle that was in the road on Fairview Avenue, according to Dolan. Dolan said the victim, a Hamden resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ballistic evidence, along with multiple handguns, were recovered at the crime scene, according to Dolan. The Medical Examiner's Office and Connecticut State Police are assisting with the homicide investigation, according to Dolan. The victim's identity isn't being released until next of kin is notified, Dolan said. "My sincere condolences go out to their family and friends as well as those impacted by violence in the community," Mayor Lauren Garrett said in a statement. "Our Violence Intervention Program, CTVIP, was notified last night to work with those involved. CTVIP works with youth and adults impacted by violence to prevent conflict and possible retaliation."
