Description
Press release from the Susquehanna Hose Company:
January 17, 2022
Just after 11pm last night, SHCo crews were dispatched for the report of a CO detector sounding in a residence in the 500 block of Congress Avenue, with two occupants feeling sick. SHCo crews investigated the reporting dwelling and found elevated levels of carbon monoxide throughout, with elevated levels also in a neighboring dwelling. BGE was requested to the scene to assist in pinpointing the source of the leak in the neighboring dwelling, while SHCo crews vented both dwellings. Havre De Grace Ambulance Corps evaluated both occupants and later transported them to a local hospital for further evaluation.
As a reminder, if you have gas service to your home, it is imperative that you have carbon monoxide detectors installed. While the leak was not in the reporting party's residence last night, their CO detectors alerted them to the leak in the neighboring dwelling, potentially saving their lives. With Carbon Monoxide being odorless, tasteless and colorless, had they not had detectors and then went to sleep for the night, the situation could've turned deadly.
If you're a Havre de Grace resident in need of a CO detector or smoke detector, please visit our Contact Us page and fill out the form with your information & someone will be in contact with you. For those viewing this that do not reside in Havre de Grace, contact your local fire company & they will be able to provide detectors for you.
