First Time Connecticut Snowmobiler Crashes In Northern NH

CONCORD, NH — Inexperience in snowmobiling is considered the primary factor of an accident in the North Country of New Hampshire on Saturday that injured a Connecticut man. Around 2:30 p.m., New Hampshire Fish & Game Conservation Officers were sent to a crash report on Back Lake near Beach Road in Pittsburg. Police, firefighters, EMTs, and others also responded. According to witnesses, Andres Silva, 27, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was riding with four other snowmobilers on Primary Trail 142. Most of the group accidentally left the main trail and found themselves in a parking lot near Back Lake. While trying to locate the trail, Silva rode his machine onto the lake, according to Eric Fluette, a conservation officer. "While riding from the lake back to the parking area, where he had left his riding companions, Silva lost control of his snowmobile as he was turning to enter the shoreline access of the parking lot, striking a tree stump on the shoreline of Back Lake," he said. "Silva was thrown from his machine and sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries." The other riders were close by when the accident happened and went to Silva's aid, according to Fluette. They moved the injured rider into a nearby business and called 911. Silva was taken by ambulance to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital for treatment. "Conservation officers believe inexperience to be the primary factor in this crash," Fluette said. "It was determined that this had been the first time Silva had ever been snowmobiling."
