JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Joliet woman remains in the Will County Jail after being captured several hours after Joliet police say she stole someone's minivan parked in a driveway in the 2300 block of Webster Avenue. About eight hours after the minivan was stolen, Destiny Kalata was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of motor vehicle theft. Her bail was set at $25,000. Around 4:10 a.m. last Friday, Joliet police were notified of the minivan theft on the city's east side. "Officers determined that the vehicle's owner had started their minivan to warm it up, leaving the keys in the vehicle," police spokesman Dwayne English notified Patch. "The owner heard a vehicle door shut and then observed her minivan driving away westbound on Webster Avenue." Joliet's patrol officers spotted the vehicle in the 2300 block of Francine Avenue. The minivan sustained front end damage after Kalata hit the median near McDonough Street and Joyce Road, according to police reports. "It was confirmed that Kalata did not have permission to drive the minivan, and she was taken into custody without incident," Joliet police announced. Kalata lives in the 3600 block of Shannon Court, jail logs show.
