Description
Hi there,
My grandmother, with tears in her eyes, asked me to have her dog put down today. 10 yr old border collie mix that she's had since he was 8 weeks old. He used to alert the house when my grandmother's mom would fall, but my grandmother unfortunately is in the beginning stages of dementia. She spent 3 months overseas and I had him on an awesome schedule and at a healthy weight, but she over feeds him (forgetting that she's fed him) and he wakes her up several times a night to go outside, which has made it hard for her to function throughout the day. He would be an awesome dog for someone age 50-70. He isn't very active and just wants companionship, and probably will live another 5-6 yrs. It would be good for the owner to be firm and set boundaries.
There is no rehoming fee but it would mean the world to her if someone could love him until the end of his natural life rather than have him put down.
If you know of a program that would take him, we would also welcome the advice.
Thanks for reading.
