Description

Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Dominique-Noelle Rafael, your host of the Anchorage Daily. First, today's weather: Mainly cloudy and colder. High: 19 Low: 12. Here are the top three stories in Anchorage today: Anchorage restaurants are making drastic adjustments to deal with omicron and the consequences of the present surge of COVID. To mitigate the current staffing issue, some restaurants and bars are taking steps like cutting hours or operating fewer days of the week. Recent supply chain issues, climbing overhead costs, and the new variant have caused further complications in an already struggling industry. (Anchorage Daily News) After 15 years of planning, Alaska's land exchange between the federal government and the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority was signed on Thursday by Gov. Mike Dunleavy. It will secure employment while supporting Alaska's mental health treatment programs, according to the governor. The easements allow mutual use to the AMHTA and U.S. Forest Service and therefore provide critical access to the new Trust lands while allowing continued access to the U.S. Forest Service lands by the public. (Must Read Alaska)The Municipality of Anchorage and a team of developers are working together to convert a mile-long stretch of rolling forest in Girdwood into a new, large housing development. This will help to address a severe housing shortage in this ski town. There is a great deal of differing opinions and conflict over the project, though all agree that more housing in Girdwood is needed.
