BIRMINGHAM, AL — This past week saw some major coaching changes at two Class 7A football teams, which also resulted in a staff change at another local school. Also in the news this week, a hostage situation in Birmingham luckily resulted in no fatalities, but did end with an arrest. Here are those stories and more that made headlines this past week on Patch: Birmingham Hostage Situation Ends With No Injuries, Two Arrests An overnight hostage situation in the Kingston community in Birmingham ended with no injuries when the hostage escaped and two suspects surrendered. Hoover City Schools Requiring Masks, Halting Some Contact Tracing Hoover City Schools announced it is once again requiring masks to be worn inside school buildings, effective immediately. GoFundMe Page Raising Money For Local Teen's Funeral Expenses A GoFundMe page has been established to pay for the funeral expenses for De'Undray Haggard, the 18-year-old Birmingham teenager whom police said was shot to death Wednesday night on the city's west side. Wade Waldrop To Be New Hoover High Football Coach Wade Waldrop, who spent the 2021 season in charge at Florence High School, is expected to be named as the new head football coach at powerhouse Hoover High School. Mountain Brook High Football Assistant Leaves For Alma Mater Robert Evans, who has been the defensive coordinator for the Mountain Brook High football team since 2018, was named the new football coach at Vestavia Hills on Thursday. He is a 1999 graduate of the school.
