King Soopers and the current strike

Events

Description

I had a conversation with a KS employee yesterday and asked about the strike issues. She was pretty unhappy with me asking and had something of an 'attitude' and all I was trying to do was engage with her to get more information. After some reasonably helpful discussions I was leaving and told her that I hoped things would work out for her and her fellow employees and her reply was that "it never will". I was taken back by that and asked her why she felt that way. She said, "because KS is a corporation". If the union is suggesting to their employees that the reason why there is a dispute over wages and benefits is that KS is a corporation, then they are feeding their members horrible information. There are some 170,000 to 200,000 corporations in the US and they represent 90% of all things that are bought and sold. People incorporate, among other reasons because they want to protect themselves from lawsuits. Incorporation limits the liability of a corporation to the amount of money that was invested in the corporation. People don't incorporate because they are looking for a way to pay people lower wages. Come on folks, if this is what employees of KS and other incorporated employers think about their employer, then they need to educate themselves. Corporations are not inherently bad. There are people in corporations making bad decisions but to say that things cannot get resolved at KS or any other business for that matter is just plain ignorance of the reality of a business that operates as a corporation.
