Description

The month of February has also been designated as "Oxford Strong" month, and February 4 will be known as "Oxford Strong" day. MHSAA officials say Feb. 4 will be designated as “Oxford Strong” day. The shirts will be sold to schools, which can then distribute them in their communities. Schools may ask their communities to wear the apparel as part of any “Oxford Strong” sporting events during February. E.A. Graphics is the merchandising partner of MHSAA and Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) Shirts can be purchased at supportoxfordstrong.com. The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced on Monday that it is endorsing a multi-community effort to have the month of February designated for statewide “Oxford Strong” support among the state’s high school athletic programs. The “Oxford Strong” slogan has been a phrase that many have used to rally in support of those impacted by the tragic Oxford High School shooting on Nov. 30 that claimed the lives of four students. Organizers are asking communities to wear the "Oxford Strong" shirts throughout the month of February. Feb. 4, according to the MHSAA, has been designated as "Oxford Strong" day. Four Oxford High students died in the Nov. 30 shooting — Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Hana St. Juliana, 14; Tate Myre, 16; and Justin Shilling, 17 — and six students and one teacher were injured. Myre, Shilling and St. Juliana were athletes, and Baldwin was an aspiring artist. Shilling's bowling team held the school's first match since the shooting last week, with hundreds of community members in attendance. The school shooting was the deadliest in the U.S. this year, and the deadliest in Michigan in decades. We envision a world where these moments are celebrated, valued, and protected by everybody—both in the private sector and in the public sphere. In order to specifically help fund Oxford High School and its community, E.A. Graphics created the SupportOxfordStrong.com website for people to purchase “Oxford Strong” T-shirts and hoodies. According to the MHSAA, a large portion of each purchase will be donated to Oxford High School. For example, every purchase of $20 T-shirt will get $16.20 donated. There have been several tributes for the victims from Michigan's sports community, including patches worn by the Michigan football and women's basketball teams; a helmet decal worn by Eastern Michigan in its bowl game; and a game ball from Lions coach Dan Campbell's first victory being donated to the community. Michigan and Michigan State have welcomed Oxford athletes to campus to watch sporting events. Last week, Myre, a star running back recruited by several Division I programs, was named an honorary member of Michigan State's 2022 recruiting class, and the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association named Myre honorary captain of its 2021 "Dream Team."
