The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families' immediate needs. Responders included: Steven Pintavalle, Howard Raff and Adam Podgorski, according to a news release. Read details on the fire response, via City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073 on Facebook, below: "Last night around 8:15, Engines 1 and 2 along with Cars 1, 2, 3, and 4 responded for reported structure fire with multiple calls on Silver Street," officials wrote in the post on Facebook. "First due E1 encountered heavy fire from the rear of the residence which was starting to impede on the neighboring home. E1 stretched a line to keep the fire from spreading to the adjacent residence. E1 and 2 then made an interior attack but the fire forced units back. Operations were hampered by weather conditions and the age (construction) of the home. South District, Westfield, and Durham Fire operated on scene with Middletown for a lengthy period of time. One person was transported due to smoke inhalation. The fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office of South District."
