Press release from the Town of Brookfield: January 14, 2022 - 5:38pm COVID-19 Update 1/14/2022 Each week, Governor Lamont and Connecticut's Department of Public Health, issue statistics that track the average daily rate of COVID-19 cases among Brookfield, CT residents. These rate statistics can be confusing for the lay person, because they are based on a per 100,000 people basis…whereas Brookfield's population is only 17,528 residents (2020 census). The most understandable and realistic way to present the COVID-19 case data is to use actual numbers of weekly cases from the State's data base Connecticut Data and then express them as a percentage of Brookfield's population, which I will be doing going forward. The following table shows the actual numbers and percentages of Brookfield COVID-19 confirmed cases (people testing positive) since 12/25/21. * 2020 census data As you can see, there is an uptick in the number of cases from 12/25/21 to 01/01/22, which is likely due to the result of infection with the Omicron variant, a more contagious, but less aggressive form of COVID-19. Thereafter, the number of cases remain essentially unchanged by 01/08/22. Thankfully, when one looks at the overall percentage of confirmed town cases, the numbers remain very low. The last COVID-19 death in Brookfield was November 2021. Given the flat curve of deaths to confirmed positive case ratio, survivability of COVID-19 is very high. N95 masks are available to those who wish to receive them at the following Locations/Times: Boosters/Vaccinations continue to be available to those who wish to receive them at the Town Hall (room 129 – 100 Pocono Road, Brookfield, CT) at the following times: Tuesdays 10 am to 1pm and Thursdays 3pm to 6pm (The clinics will continue through the end of January, or until further notice. No appointment needed - walk-ins only. Must provide proof of primary vaccination series at vaccine clinic for Booster doses, and bring a photo ID). Please remember the "layered approach," which is proper hygiene (frequent hand washing), healthy diet, exercise, COVID-19 shots and mask wearing when necessary. Continue to use caution and common sense. Additionally, please take precautions to keep warm and stay safe this weekend. Tonight, there is a potential for hazardous winds from a system moving up the coast that could reach CT. Friday into Saturday, bitter cold wind chill warnings are predicted and a strong disturbance bringing hazardous winds and heavy, wet snowfall is predicted to impact CT from Sunday evening into Monday.
