PARK FOREST, IL — After a Dec. 6 shooting that nearly injured a young child, police told residents they have arrested someone in connection to the incident which took place on Mantua Street. According to officials, a person shot at two men walking along the street but missed both, sending the bullets flying into a house behind them. Police said one bullet went through the window of a child's room but narrowly missed the young boy since he was lying in his bed at the time. After investigating, police determined the shooting was the result of a previous fight between the shooter and the two men. Authorities did not immediately respond to questions on if guns were involved in the prior incident. On Thursday, police and the South Suburban Emergency Response Team arrested a 40-year-old convicted felon while conducting a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of Neola Street. Police told Patch they recovered a handgun at the scene and later charged the man with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. Officials said the arrest was just one of four recent arrests in connection with incidents around Park Forest with two handguns recovered. "We share this information to keep the community informed, and to warn would-be criminals that you cannot escape justice when you commit violent crimes in Park Forest," the department said in a social media post. Police had not released the name of the 40-year-old Park Forest man who was arrested as of Friday night.
