Press release from the Guilford County Government: 01/14/2022 Guilford County has declared a local State of Emergency due to the potential impacts of the forecasted winter storm predicted to move through the area this weekend. The State of Emergency will go into effect 12:00 AM Sunday morning, January 16, 2022. County local weather forecasters predict the storm will significantly impact the state and Guilford County could see snow, sleet and then rain. These continued conditions are likely to result in additional adverse conditions such as icy roads, and downed powerlines and trees with anticipated power outages through the county. Residents are encouraged to stay off the roadways during the impact and post-impact timeframes of the storm if reasonably possible, and to limit travel so as not to interfere with efforts of emergency responders and repair crews. "Our Emergency Management officials have advised that we are expecting this storm to have a significant impact in many parts of Guilford County," Chairman Alston said. "Declaring a state of emergency now allows our emergency responders time to prepare and to move supplies and equipment where they expect to need them the most. This declaration also gives our first responders the ability to respond to any storm needs swiftly. I urge our residents to take proper precautions with this storm. Err on the side of caution and take predictions for this winter storm seriously." Guilford County Emergency Management Division has been monitoring the weather and anticipates impacts will begin Saturday night. However, local news stations have added that the National Weather Service is still refining its forecasts. Residents are urged to continue to monitor local media outlets as well as the County's Website and social media platforms. Under this declaration, local municipalities and townships within Guilford County have the option to sign-on to the order and coordinate under the County's Emergency Operations Plan.
