Description

Network with some of our industry's leading local Residential Property Managers and the vendor affiliates they work with. Guest SpeakerRon Garcia Ron Garcia has been a licensed real estate broker since 1987 – yes, he is older than dirt. He has been a landlord since 1981 (excluding a few years during the Great Recession, when he was forced to live on the morsels of “rentals past”). In 2010 he, along with his wife Belinda, formed The Garcia Group Real Estate Services and they manage roughly 600 doors in the Greater Portland Metro area. While property management has aged him beyond his useful life, he has discovered the fountain of youth by running 20 miles per week and eating a primarily paleo diet. (Dull and unsatisfying). Ever a glutton for hardship, he accepted the position as Executive Director of Rental Housing Alliance Oregon in April 2021 during the height of the Covid pandemic. RHA Oregon is a 503 c -6 nonprofit organization and has been serving Housing Providers since 1927. In this capacity, (and his prior role as its President) Ron has spent countless hours spanning several years, working with state and local legislators, community action agencies and other housing organizations to help draft Tenant Landlord laws and regulations. He often speaks to (and is on a first name basis with) the Governor, the Speaker of the House, many State Senators and Representatives and several City Commissioners. (The Portland Mayor refuses to take his calls however). Since taking on this role, The Portland Relocation and the FAIR Ordinance, SB 602, 4 eviction protection laws (HB 4401, SB 282, SB 287 and SB891) and a host of other Tenant Protection bills have passed into law. A life-long optimist, Ron is known to admit to and quote a line from Nancy Sinatra “I’ve been down so long, it looks like up to me.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlhJx_b3g8A He can be reached at [email protected]
