MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI—A man is dead from a self-inflicted wound after a shooting exchange with West Allis Police Department late Thursday night, according to West Allis police.
The West Allis Police Department answered a call at 10:20 p.m. regarding a man who had pointed a gun at the caller. The caller said the man was driving to the area of South 116th Street and West Greenfield Avenue, police said.
Police stopped the car in the 11500 block of West Greenfield Avenue, police said.
During the stop, the driver shot at the officer and the officer returned fire, police said.
The man ran to an apartment in the 1400 block of South 116th Street. As officers searched the area of the apartment, a gunshot was heard, police said.
The man was located deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
No officers were injured as a result of the incident.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating this incident and the investigation is ongoing. The Oak Creek Police Department is the lead investigating agency.
