MD Man Wanted On Child Abuse Charges Stopped At Dulles Airport

DULLES, VA — A Maryland man wanted by the Baltimore Police Department on felony charges of second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault was stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from boarding a flight to El Salvador recently. CBP officers at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) arrested 53- year-old Mario Alberto Diaz, a U.S. citizen from Baltimore, who was also wanted on a misdemeanor dangerous weapon charge with intent to injure. After CBP verified Diaz's identity and that the arrest warrant was still active, they turned him over to the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Police for extradition to Baltimore. This is the third such arrest CPB officers at IAD have made in about two weeks. On Christmas Eve, CBP stopped Sir Chuku Maurice Ngare, 44, of Marietta, Georgia from boarding a flight to Germany. He was was wanted out of Cobb County, Georgia on an arrest warrant for felony child sexual assault and molestation. Related: 2 Men Wanted On Child Sex Assault Charges Arrested At VA Airport Giovanni Di Angelo Reumante, 31, was arrested on similar charges shortly after his flight from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, arrived at Dulles on Dec. 28. Earlier in the day, the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland had issued a warrant with a nationwide extradition request for Reumante, who is a resident of Tacoma Park. "Customs and Border Protection officers continue to support our local law enforcement partners by identifying and arresting travelers who are wanted on a variety of criminal charges," said Daniel Escobedo, area port director for CBP's area port of Washington, D.C., in a release. "Border security remains a critical mission for CBP, and it is one way in which CBP helps to keep our communities safe."
