OAK FOREST, IL — Two catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles in one night in Oak Forest, police told Patch. The first incident occurred on the 14700 block of Manchester Court in between Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 when a woman said she returned to her vehicle after a few days to find the car part missing. The second theft took place early on Jan. 6 in the 5800 block of 168th Place. A man told police someone cut the catalytic converter from his car while he parked it in a lot overnight. Both incidents came shortly before 12 catalytic converters were stolen from a lot in Downers Grove and 32 were stolen from a business parking lot in Northbrook. Police recommend the following actions to help prevent catalytic converter thefts: Secure your vehicle; park in a garage or securely fenced-in area.If you cannot park in the garage, park in a well-lit area or use motion sensor lights.Always lock your vehicle and set your alarm.Use a home video system; ensure your video system at home captures where your vehicle is parked.Install an anti-theft device to the converter.
