Food Service Robots Come To Delco Retirement Community

MEDIA, PA — Residents of a Delaware County retirement community can now be served meals by robots. Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line in Media recently debuted two new robots that will deliver them food in the facility's dining room. The robots, called "Matradee," are created by Richtech Robotics. These two robots will offer easy access food delivery for senior residents in Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line's dining room. "Our mission is to provide innovation in aging services, which is why we're paving the way for CCRCs across the country to create more accessibility options for seniors," said Mike DeStefon, executive director of Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line. "A major benefit of this technology is that it enables us to continue to provide an enjoyable dining experience while managing our industry- wide staffing shortages. The 'Matradees' are just one example of what the future will look like." The "Matradee" has designated tiers to hold trays of food. The bots use GPS to move around the room and the advanced software plots out table configurations. It is capable of scanning the environment to avoid bumping into people and obstacles while it travels on its own. An additional bonus is that it sings "Happy Birthday" to residents. Richtech's cutting edge solutions are used by brands all over the globe including Hilton, Nike, and Keurig Dr Pepper. Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line senior residents are among the very first people to experience this technology in the country.
