JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department's detective unit is investigating a Friday afternoon shooting on the city's west side that left a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Around 2:20 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 800 block of Cochrane Avenue after hearing reports of a shooting. Officers could not find any shooting victims at the scene, according to police spokesman Dwayne English. Several minutes later, Joliet police learned that the 16-year-old shooting victim arrived at the St. Joe's hospital emergency room by a private vehicle, English said. The boy was shot in the same area where Joliet police were told a shooting had taken place. The gunshot wound to the boy's shoulder area is not considered a life-threatening injury, according to police. This is an active investigation in its early stages as Joliet Police Detectives work to identify a suspect or suspects, English indicated. If anyone has information related to this incident, they are encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department Investigation Unit at 815-724-3020. They can also contact Will County Crime Stoppers at 800-323-6734 if they wish to remain anonymous. Friday's non-fatal shooting was first reported by Joliet resident Bob Hernandez, who went to St. Joe's hospital to produce one of his Facebook Live videos. This marks the city of Joliet's second shooting so far this year. On Jan. 6, a 32-year-old man was hospitalized at St. Joe's after suffering non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his legs after being shot in the area of North Broadway and Moran Streets, according to Sgt. English. Image via Google Maps Image via Google Maps
