DARIEN, IL — The Hinsdale High School District 86 board approved a contract extension with the teachers union Thursday, giving teachers a 1.4 percent pay raise for the 2022-23 school year. According to a news release, the pay increase represents the consumer price index. The 1.4 percent increase in prices was in 2020; in 2021, the hike was 7 percent, the highest in nearly four decades. The contract had been set to expire June 30, but it is now extended by a year. All other provisions of the agreement remain the same. The district and the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association said in a joint statement that the extension was the result of a "positive and productive dialogue." They said the process has reinforced their commitment to reaching a long-term deal. "By extending the contract, we can reward the hard work and dedication of our educators, provide additional time and opportunity to collaborate on a new agreement, and, most importantly, keep our energy and attention fully focused on meeting the needs of our students," the statement said.
