taught at Urban Art Retreat 1957 S. Spaulding in North Lawndale
The American Black History class series will be comprised of viewing a documentary by Henry Louis Gates Jr. called- The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross.
We will watch it in segments, discuss it, and make art about the film.
We will also have visitors, such as Billy Che Brooks, Paul Norrington, who will tell their own story in the context of history. In addition we will learn about black Americans who contributed to American life and make art about them. We will have discussions about current American life as it affects African Americans. Students will learn about black wall street. We will also use flash card to learn about black history! Each youth will write a story on African American history as they see it, and will illustrate the story. We will create our own film on African American History with students telling it. Together we will create a book.
