CIS & IMC are hosting free ABI & EKG screenings on Feb. 10 & 23 at CIS New Iberia. February is American Heart Month and there's no better time to consider getting a heart check up. Did you know heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.? Our physicians at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) want to see you before you have symptoms or a life-changing cardiac event. Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) & Iberia Medical Center are hosting free cardiovascular screenings at CIS New Iberia (500 N Lewis St Suite 100, New Iberia, LA 70563) on Thursday, February 10 and Wednesday, February 23 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Guests will receive a complimentary electrocardiogram (EKG) and ankle brachial index (ABI) screenings. An EKG is a painless test that records the electrical signals of the heart. The screening can detect blockages, the thickness of the heart wall, past heart attacks and more. An ABI is simple, painless exam is used to test the blood flow in the legs to determine risk of vascular disease. Results will be reviewed on site. Risk factors of vascular disease include family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as smoking, being overweight or being inactive. Refreshments will be provided.
