Join BDPA NYC at Google NYC for our Technology Saturday Program Kick OffPrograms OfferedHigh School Computer CompetitionStudents will compete for 2-days at the national conference against over +20 teams nationally for the opportunity to win scholarship money and prizes. The competition is comprised of 2 components. Knowledge of basic computer science principalsWeb Application DevelopmentThe first component will require students to have a good grasp on AP Computer science curriculum and BDPA history. This year we will be teaching this component using Python, however the knowledge will be transferable to any coding language. The second component requires students on the day to build an entire web application to solve the problem created at the competition. After building, students will then present their finished product to a panel of judges. Information Technology (IT) ShowcaseIT Showcase competition, is a 2-day event held during the annual National BDPA Technology Conference. The competition requires students to submit the following: Submit a research paper (8 page minimum/maximum-single space)Create a powerpoint presentation based on the paper (10-15 min. duration)Create a powerpoint poster board presentation (3ftx4ft)Provide headshot photo of studentEach students research project (presentations, powerpoint and poster board) are judged by a panel of judges in two categories: college and high school. Scholarships are earned in each category for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place presented at the conference award ceremony/gala. Each participant is recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation Common research project topics include, but are not limited to, intelligent technologies (i.e., smart toys, machine learning, and genetic algorithms, etc.), wearable computing technologies, web technologies, mobile technologies, parallel computing technologies, cybersecurity, computing curricula, business intelligence, etc.. Mobile App ShowcaseThe National BDPA Mobile App Showcase allows high school and college students the opportunity to participate in a competition that tests their talents against others in developing a functional mobile application. The student will design, program, and pitch their own app. Students will work on their app throughout the year, and pitch it during the National Conference in August. Each student’s projects will be judged in either High School (9-12 grade) or College brackets. Their projects will be assessed by a panel of judges. Scholarships will be awarded to the top high school and college participants. This is an in-person event. In compliance with the New York City/Google mandate, all visitors must show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination. If a change of mandate occurs due to spikes in the new COVID variant, the event will be held virtually and classes will be capable of being taught in a hybrid setting. BDPA (Black Data Processing Associates) was founded in 1975 in Philadelphia, PA and continues today to bridge the Digital Divide with its educational technological programs and services. The New York Chapter chartered in September 1982 has successfully bonded with urban and underserved communities through networking, education programs, seminars, workshops, and annual conferences.
