Learn the basics of bicycle repair from our trained mechanics, topics covered include fixing a flat tire, brake and derailleur adjustments ​Taught by our shop mechanics, this introductory class is split into four, two-hour evening sessions (6:00 - 8 pm) each month.The March schedule is as follows:- Tuesday March 1, 6 - 8 PM- Tuesday March 8, 6 - 8 PM- Tuesday March 15, 6 - 8 PM- Tuesday March 22, 6 - 8 PMTopics covered in the class include:- Differences between styles of bicycles and their purpose- Names of bicycle parts and their functions- Introduction to bicycle-specific tools- How to repair a flat tire- How to diagnose and repair brake and derailleur issues- Brake and derailleur cable adjustments- How to true a wheel- Proper bike fit- How to take care of and maintain your bike in your daily lifeThis class includes an annual membership to the Bicycle Collective. If you are already a member, your membership will be renewed for one year at the end of the class. Note* Please bring your bike to every session, the easiest way to learn is on your own bicycle. The Des Moines Bicycle Collective champions stronger communities, vibrant neighborhoods and healthy individuals by encouraging active transportation choices. ​ In addition to offering the region’s only nonprofit, “do-it-together”, community workspace, the Des Moines Bicycle Collective exists to provide countless opportunities for education, empowerment and social change through bicycle restoration, charitable bicycle donations,  educational programs, events, and more.
