PATCHOGUE, NY — Suffolk police have identified Saul Lozada, 29, of Patchogue, as the man who was struck by a car and killed while crossing North Ocean Avenue in Medford last week. News of Lozada's identification came within hours of police detectives releasing a sketch of his likeness. He had been walking across the roadway at the intersection of Masonic Avenue when he was struck by a southbound 2003 Honda Civic at about 10:20 p.m. on Jan. 4, police said, adding that he was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda, Daniel Avila-Canales, 26, of Medford, was not injured in the crash, but two passengers in his car were transported to the same hospital for treatment of "minor injuries," police said. His vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the victim's identity to contact the 5th Squad at 631-854-8552.
