WESTPORT, CT — A Rhode Island man accused of punching an elderly man near the parking lot of the Saugatuck Train Station last month was arrested Sunday afternoon, according to police. In a news release, Police Lt. Dave Wolf said officers responded to the Charles Street area around 2 a.m. on Dec. 6 to assist state police with a reported accident on Interstate 95. A state police trooper told officers both drivers involved the accident left area, and one was supposedly seen chasing the other, Wolf said. Police ultimately located both drivers near lot 2 of the Saugatuck Train Station. One of the drivers, who police identified who as a 68-year-old man, told officers he was assaulted by the other driver, who was identified as Nathan Ocampo, 24, of Providence, R.I., Wolf said. The elderly man told officers he and Ocampo both pulled over after the accident, but he drove away after Ocampo started yelling at him, Wolf said. The elderly man said he got off exit 17 of the interstate with the intent of pulling into a well-lit area and noticed Ocampo was following him. He then stopped in lot 1 of the train station, exited his car and ran away from Ocampo, Wolf said. According to Wolf, Ocampo is accused of chasing the man on foot and, when he caught up to him, punching and pushing the elderly man. Ocampo denied striking the man, Wolf said. Police later obtained surveillance footage that showed Ocampo physically assaulting the elderly man and a warrant was issued for his arrest, Wolf said. Ocampo was arrested Sunday afternoon on a charge of second-degree assault of an elderly person.
