Description

Press release from the Village of Shorewood: January 13, 2022 A very common question in the Village every winter is "what do I do when I see a sidewalk that hasn't been shoveled or cleared?" First of all, as a reminder, Village Ordinance 466-27 requires Shorewood private property owners, commercial property owners and property occupants to clear the sidewalks of snow and ice abutting their property within 12 hours after the snow or ice has stopped falling. This requires clearing the full width of the sidewalk, down to the pavement. This also includes the corner ramps to the crosswalks for property owners with the corner lots or those whose property abuts a mid-block crosswalk. If you notice any issues with sidewalks and corner ramps not being cleared, contact the Police Department at 414.847.2610. The Police Department will send someone out to inspect, and if it is determined the snow hasn't been cleared properly, the property owner will be notified and asked to clear the snowy/icy area. Failure to comply will result in a citation. Please be a good neighbor and clear the sidewalks and corner ramps. Watch this video for some tips on proper salt usage.
