LI Company Wins $20 Million Navy Contract

UNIONDALE, NY — A Long Island company has won a $20 million government contract to help develop a new clock for the Navy. Frequency Electronics, Inc., which is based in Uniondale, was awarded a $20.2 million contract from the Office of Naval Research to develop a mercury ion atomic clock for Naval platforms, the company said. "We are extremely pleased to announce this award and an expanding relationship with ONR on advanced technology atomic clock development," Frequency Electronics CEO Stan Sloane said in a release. Atomic clocks are the most accurate clocks that can be made. They are used to synchronize GPS systems, and can be used in weapons as well. Frequency Electronics develops and manufactures high-precision timing and other products for space and other applications. The company says its products are used in government and military systems, including missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft, GPS, wireless networks and more.
