Description
MCLEAN, VA — An unattended candle caused a two-alarm fire Saturday, Jan. 8 in McLean, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. There were no injuries.
Units from Fairfax County and Arlington County responded around 10:42 p.m. to the 1500 block of Dominion Hill Court. A second alarm was requested, as the two-story, single-family home had fire showing from all sides.
Crews worked to contain the volume of fire and keep it from spreading to neighboring homes. Firefighters knocked the fire down in 30 minutes but remained on scene overnight to tackle hot spots.
Two residents were home when the fire started and evacuated before calling 911. Working smoke alarms activated after the residents found the fire.
Fire investigators determined an unattended candle ignited nearby combustibles in the family room. Damages were estimated to be around $919,500.
Two people were displaced due to the fire. Red Cross assistance was declined.
