LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A man from Leesburg who fled the country earlier this month now faces murder charges, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. The man, Furqan Syed, is wanted in connection with the homicide of Najat Chemlali Goode in Ashburn on Dec. 30. Syed is currently at large, the sheriff's office said. However, detectives from Loudoun County are working with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the U.S. Marshals Service to apprehend Syed. Syed fled the country on Jan. 3, police said. Last week, detectives obtained warrants for his arrest. He is charged with first-degree murder, entering a residence with intent to commit murder, shooting in the commission of murder, and three counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Authorities said there was a connection that linked Syed and the victim. The investigation is still ongoing, and the sheriff's office has chosen not to release many details regarding the case, including how Goode was killed. Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, deputies were called to a home in the 23200 block of Connie Marie Terrace after the woman was found by a family member. Authorities said the woman was taken to StoneSprings Hospital Center where she died. The victim was later identified as Goode. Earlier this month, the sheriff's office released a sketch of a person of interest in the homicide. The composite sketch pictured a man who was in the area at the time of the homicide, police said.
