Here are the top 2 stories in Burlington today: Vermont lawmakers, state employees, and teachers have developed a plan to get the state employee and teacher pension plans fully funded by 2038. Under this plan, staff would pay slightly more into the fund and receive slightly fewer benefits, while the state would contribute using General Fund money to help close the $3 billion gap. At a Tuesday meeting, Governor Phil Scott reported that he will need to ensure the plan is sustainable before signing off on it, but he is encouraged to see the progress made in solving the problem. (WCAX)There's a high demand for all kinds of medical workers, and a new partnership at the UVM Medical Center aims to ease some of the demand for phlebotomists. The Phlebotomy Training Program gives students both classroom and hands-on experience, allowing them to get into the field after they finish their eight-week training.
